This Is The Life Families
HOW WE GOT OUR START
Hello, I’m Angell’! I'm originally from Jamaica, and growing up I was always identified by my name, not my color. Our Motto is Out Of Many One People. When I came to the states I was no longer identified by my name, but instead by my race. In 2007 I married the love of my life, who is Jewish, and became a mother for the first time in 2008.
I currently live with my husband and children on Long Island. Though I remember having such rich and diverse experiences growing up - the experiences of my own children have lacked that richness, and they have encountered a personal disconnect. We live in an area where my children stand out. They don’t see people who look like them - Not their friends, not their doctors, or teachers, or pastors etc… They are often classified as black, which negates a large part of who they are, and where they come from.
Many multiracial youths face unique challenges finding authentic friendships in order to create a sense of being included and accepted. I know so many families are out there, looking for a place where we belong, where our children can grow and shine, and be accepted for who they are. Can you relate?
This is the Life Families Inc. was developed in 2020. The goal of this organization is to create a sense of community and acceptance of everything that makes us unique. We want to connect families with diverse backgrounds, and build friendships by finding common ground. We welcome all multiracial families, even if your experiences and perspectives are different.
